Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs album from 1975 Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to the formation of Toto in the year 1976.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics due to not having hit singles. In 1985 the lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group, and the group held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the 1986 album Fahrenheit.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the band. The band went through old tapes and recordings to create the unique record. The album was well received by fans and the band embarked on a tour featuring former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Totopia KR Joseph Williams.

During the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun, drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.

During the tour, lead vocalist Bobby Kimball was arrested on drug charges. The band decided to let him go at the end of the tour and then hired guitarist and singer Joseph Williams in his place. David Hungate, the drummer also quit the band after the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.

Toto has produced many music videos. The band has released a variety of compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video for the group is "Africa", which has more than a billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library, where the band performs on top of an African book stack.

The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by members of the band and was produced by David Paich. It was a huge success in Europe and other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their fame following their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in America.

Following the release of the album, Toto went on a world tour. The group was comprised of touring musicians Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest. Warren Ham, Shem von Schröeck, and Shem von Schroeck were also part of the group. Steve Lukather also released his second solo album, Luke.

In 1985 In 1985, drummer Fergie Frederiksen left Toto due to personal reasons. Toto held an audition to find an alternative for Frederiksen.

Before and during the time of Toto's creation the members of the group worked as session musicians for a broad range of artists. Toto was founded following Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and Boz Scaggs recorded Silk Degrees. Paich played keyboards on Steely Dan's records, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

In 1998, Toto began working on an album called Old Is New. The album featured three new tracks and several completed recordings of older songs. The album received a lot of attention worldwide and the band went on a worldwide tour to promote the album.

Toto is famous for their hit song "Africa" Recently, the band came together to promote their latest album, All In. The album debuted on November 6, 2018, and included three brand new tracks from the upcoming 40 Trips Around the Sun, and also completed recordings of four older tracks with Jeff Porcaro on drums and either Mike or Steve Porcaro on bass. The album included a cover version of Weezer’s song "Hash Pipe" which they added after hearing it on the radio.
